King Ottokar's Scepter is the eighth volume of The Adventures of Tintin. Charged by the traditionalist Belgian paper Le Vingtième Siècle for its youngsters' enhancement Le Petit Vingtième, it was serialized week after week from August 1938 to August 1939. Hergé planned the story as a humorous analysis of the expansionist arrangements of Nazi Germany, specifically the extension of Austria in March 1938 (the Anschluss). The story recounts youthful Belgian correspondent Tintin and his canine Snowy, who travel to the anecdotal Balkan country of Syldavia, where they battle a plot to topple the government of King Muskar XII.
